Discussions for the payment of severance pay for the many people dismissed at X.com (Twitter) for a year, will begin.

One of the most obvious manifestations of Elon Musk’s takeover last year at X.com (Twitter) was the numerous waves of layoffs, which reduced the network’s workforce by more than half. social. Enough to reduce operating costs for a platform in constant lack of income. Even if the laid-off employees still have to be paid!

Discussions, finally!

There are many of them, thousands even, who have been officially fired from X.com since the start of the 2022 school year. But, even if the management headed by Elon Musk was completely within its rights in this matter, it must on the other hand pay a certain amount to each of the employees fired. An operation which took a long time, it seems.

Indeed, a lawyer representing some 2,000 former employees has just explained to Bloomberg that X.com finally agreed to meet with him to discuss the problem and to reach an agreement on the compensation due to be paid. And this, after having ignored the file for months.

See you at the end of the year

The case of former X.com employees was in fact a little more complicated than those of other employees. Dismissed, and without news from their former employer on the issues of compensation, bonuses and salary arrears, they tried to find a solution through the launch of a class action. Except that, unfortunately for them, the contract then signed with the social network contained a clause causing them to abandon the possibility of a class action or going to court.

For this type of dispute, the signed contract stipulated that they must necessarily go through arbitration. They then all turned to this solution which led to an explosion in arbitration costs for X.com, of the order of 3.5 million euros. Reason why the platform had until then played a deaf ear. But things are moving, and negotiations will finally be able to begin, from the beginning of December.
