ISTANBUL (Reuters) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday called on governments and private companies to find ways to allow Russian cereals and fertilizers as well as Ukrainian cereals to return to world markets under an agreement concluded last month.

“The other part of this comprehensive agreement is unhindered access to global markets for Russian food and fertilizers which are not subject to sanctions,” Antonio Guterres said during a press conference in Istanbul. “It is important that all governments and the private sector cooperate to bring them back to the markets.”

“Getting more food and fertilizer out of Ukraine and Russia is crucial to further calm commodity markets and lower prices for consumers,” the UN secretary-general added the day after a trip to Odessa, a port in southern Ukraine from where cereal exports have recently resumed after Turkish mediation.
