You didn’t know this discipline? It consists of standing on the wing of an airplane in flight. Ivor Button, a British great-grandfather, has since Saturday held the record for the oldest person to have achieved this feat, at 95 years old.
1h20 flight
It took off from Gloucestershire Airport, UK, and flew for an hour and 20 minutes to Derry Airport in Northern Ireland, UK news agency SWNS reports. He broke the record of Tom Lackey, who practiced “wing walking” at the age of 93 in 2013.
For medical research
With this high-flying performance, Ivor Button raised funds for Ataxia UK, an association for people with ataxia, degenerative diseases that affect several members of his family.
This grandpa of 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren became interested in aerial thrills as early as 1932, when he was only 6 years old, when he boarded an airplane for the first time.
Far from being frightened by the altitude, Ivor Button said on Saturday after landing: “I was not afraid, I was more afraid of being cold”.
