Urban Jungle: How to style the interior trend

What does Urban Jungle mean?

Urban Jungle is a Interior trendthat brings lots of plants into your urban environment. Literally translated, the trend means "urban jungle". The style was shaped by graphic designer Judith de Graaf and interior blogger Igor Josofovic, who made her love of plants a topic in 2013 and also published a book of the same name in 2016. The green happiness of living was soon taken up by a whole movement, the community "Urban Jungle Bloggers" created. Whether house plants, plant prints on fabric, wallpaper or decoration – the furnishing style gives us a lot of greenery in our four walls – and therefore also ensures an immense relaxation.

Urban Jungle: That is what makes the style

To create an urban jungle, there are a few simple styling tips that will help you succeed in the trend in no time at all:

  • Plants over plants: Ficus, monstera, rubber tree, philodendron, yucca palm – with all the beautiful houseplants, we can not decide! Fortunately, everything can grow wild in our Urban Jungle. And you don't even need a green thumb for this, because easy-care houseplants are always available. You should only keep an eye on the orientation of your apartment: Here you will find, for example, house plants that need little light.
  • Floral prints: Whether on bed linen, curtains or posters – floral prints from Monstera, Fern & Co. round off the urban jungle feeling and always set individual highlights.
  • Natural materials: Rattan, linen, wood, ropes, cotton, rope ladder – with these natural materials you ensure the finish.

Urban Jungle: This is how you style the style

  • Combine plants of different types and colors and put them together in arrangements. In contrast, artificial plants have lost nothing in the Urban Jungle!
  • The plants do not necessarily have to stand, but can also climb or hang. This definitely creates more excitement! The keywords here are: hanging baskets, plant ladders, plant shelves …
  • Put individual color accents or color arrangements in scene: This can be, for example, with a colored wall picture, with a particularly flowering plant or with individual decorative elements such as pillows, vases or picture frames.
  • Animal motifs are also welcome in the Urban Jungle and give the room an exotic flair.
  • However, make sure that the jungle does not appear to be overloaded: planters and plant pots should be kept relatively simple.
  • So that your room still exudes calm, neutral colors are suitable as wall paint. White or a soft beige make the plants come to the fore. A dark green wall paint can also look very stylish, but also merges with the green of the plants.

Which plants are suitable for the urban jungle?

  • All plants that awaken the association "jungle" in you are ideally suited for the urban jungle.
  • Use the plants to choose yours Needs: Check the lighting conditions of your room and also note the care instructions! If you have less time to take care of your plants yourself, you are not doing yourself a favor with plants that need to be watered particularly often.

Beautiful plants for your urban jungle:

  • Musa: The Musa is also known as a banana plant. It needs a sunny, warm location and lots of water.
  • Pilea Peperomiodes: The leaves of the pilea look like little pancakes. She likes the penumbra and needs a little water once or twice a week.
  • Monstera Deliciosa: The climbing plant is afraid of direct sunlight and would like to be watered regularly.

Urban Jungle: You have to consider that

  • The Urban Jungle style should not be implemented in all rooms, otherwise the apartment will quickly become chaotic.
  • Some plants have an allergy-causing potential: So be careful with flowering plants that secrete pollen when the plant is in your bedroom.
  • Some plants can be poisonous, so you shouldn't style the nursery in the Urban Jungle.
  • Contrary to many speculations, many plants die if they are watered too much. A pouring indicator can help here!
