Urban rodeos: gatherings of vehicles prohibited in Amiens and the surrounding area

The prefect of the Somme on Saturday until the end of March banned weekend gatherings to organize races or tuning demonstrations in and around Amiens, an area where a rodeo claimed the life of a woman in July.

Following gatherings noted yesterday (Friday) evening, and sanctioned immediately and in order to prevent new ones, sources of danger both for the participants and for the public», the prefectural decree banishes «gatherings of people and motorized land vehicles whose objective is to carry out tuning and racing demonstrations from Friday to Sunday inclusive“, in Amiens, Salouël, Boves, Dury, Glisy and Longueau, according to a press release released on Saturday evening.

On the night of July 16 to 17, during a wild race in Glisy, a 32-year-old man lost control of his motorcycle and hit a 20-year-old woman who was crossing the street. The latter, who had come to watch the race, died shortly after from her injuries.

A 2018 law strengthening the law against motorized rodeos provides for penalties of up to 5 years in prison for their perpetrators, the statement said.
