US elections 2024 – Do the Democrats have a Plan B for Biden? -News

Presidents’ Day is celebrated in the USA on the third Monday in February. A major holiday on which Americans celebrate the birthday of their first president, George Washington. The current President Joe Biden has already celebrated many birthdays, but that is not a reason for joy in the USA at the moment, but rather a reason for criticism.

Do the Democrats have a Plan B?

No, they don’t have that. But it is obvious that the nervousness is growing. The problem for the Democrats: Unless Joe Biden himself comes to the conclusion that it would be better if he gave way to someone else, he will be the candidate. And so he recently answered a journalist’s question as to why he was holding on to office: “Because I am the best qualified person in this country to be President of the USA.”

Would new candidacies still be possible?

There is an interesting debate going on in the USA. Some shout: “The Democrats urgently need a Plan B.” The others wave him off: “It’s already too late for that.” Basically, it is actually late. With the exception of six states, the registration deadline for the primary elections expires at the end of the month in all states, and in many it has long since expired. Shortly thereafter is Super Tuesday, when Joe Biden will win enough delegate votes to make everything clear. Nothing will change: Joe Biden will win his party’s primaries, and he will be the Democratic nominee if he wants to.

Could Biden give up the nomination?

A scenario that describes a different path persists: that Biden wins the party’s internal primaries, but then forgoes the nomination at the decisive party meeting in August, at which the Democrats choose their candidate, and the delegate votes that he receives won the primaries, so to speak “releases”. While this is an unlikely scenario, it is not impossible. Especially because no one knows how Biden’s health – like that of Donald Trump – will develop until the summer.

What if Biden drops out of the race?

The delegates Biden wins in the primaries are not legally obligated to vote for him or anyone he recommends. These delegates have all been vetted by Biden’s campaign team and are expected to follow his advice. Biden would remain the kingmaker, he could pass the baton, so to speak.

Besides Biden, are there enough well-known personalities in the Democratic Party?

They definitely exist. First and foremost would, of course, be Biden’s Vice President Kamala Harris. But her approval ratings are just as bad as those of her boss. Governors such as Gretchen Whitmer from Michigan, California’s Gavin Newsom, and JB Pritzker from Illinois are considered to be possible candidates with chances. Josh Shapiro, Governor of Pennsylvania, is also mentioned again and again.

Had Do these potential candidates have a chance against Donald Trump?

If the polls are correct, then a majority of Americans not only no longer want Joe Biden as their candidate, but also no longer want Donald Trump. The country wants a breath of fresh air. That’s why a fresh face might actually have a chance.
