US health agency wants to recommend masks again

In a U-turn because of the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus, the US health authority CDC will, according to media reports, recommend wearing masks again in the future. According to the CDC, those who are fully vaccinated should then cover their mouths and noses again in public spaces in some parts of the country where the virus is currently spreading particularly strongly. The authority has announced a notification for Tuesday afternoon (local time).

In May, the CDC no longer deemed it necessary for fully vaccinated individuals to wear indoor masks in the vast majority of situations. In view of the significantly increasing number of infections due to the delta variant, which already accounts for more than 80 percent of all new infections, the US experts are now turning back their assessment, according to the media.
