Giavanna Diesso, 14, was locked in a vault in Long Island, New York State. The vault is located in the Kate & Hale clothing store and is also used as a changing room. Giavanna Diesso’s little brother Vincent (7) accidentally closed the vault door behind the teenager.
The accident happened when the children’s mother was paying. Even at the cash register, her mother heard the sound of the heavy door closing behind her daughter. “It just slammed, then it clicked, so I thought what happened?” the 14-year-old agreed Newsday.
“Too shocked to be really scared”
At first the girl was not afraid. “I think I was too shocked to be really scared,” she says. Giavanna spent 90 minutes in what was previously the vault of the First National Bank of Port Jefferson.
The fire brigade rushes to the rescue – but it is well known that safes are not easy to crack. Her rescuers drilled a hole through the 12-inch wall in the store to rescue the child. Dramatic footage shared by the fire brigade on Facebook shows firefighters pulling the girl through the opening.
Brother didn’t think the door would close
Giavanna’s brother Vincent said of the mild accident: “I didn’t think that the door would actually close.” How the changing room is used and why there is the door if it should not be locked is not described in detail. (euc)
