USA charts: a good month of July for MultiVersus, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and the PS5

July could have been a month with almost no surprises, but there are two main pieces of good news to report: the increased availability of consoles and the considerable success of the two new products, MultiVersus and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Let’s start with the gear: with hardware spending up 12% from July 2021, console sales are finally heading in the right direction, especially thanks to improved PS5 inventory. As in the UK, Sony’s console is now number 1 in value for the year in the US, which means that its sales have generated more money than other platforms. Less prominent than the PS5 in July, the Xbox Series is not left out, however, since its sales have also increased compared to July 2021. Make no mistake, the Switch remains number 1 in terms of number of consoles sold, whether we are talking about the month of July or the whole year.

For lack of big competition, July could have once again crowned the monster Elden Ring, but the game from FromSoftware will be satisfied with a second place, because the launch of MultiVersus should not be underestimated. In fact, if the Smash of the Warner family is free-to-play, it is without counting on the success met by the various Founder’s Pack which allow you to unlock a certain number of characters for 40, 60 or 100 euros. Jackpot for WB Games, therefore, especially since the publisher also places its very solid LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on the podium.

The other nice success of the month is for Nintendo, whose Xenoblade Chronicles 3 starts at 4th place, by far the best ranking ever for a game in the franchise, especially without taking into account eShop sales (which Nintendo does not give). In just 48 hours, Monolith Soft’s RPG is the best seller of the month on Switch and therefore achieves a remarkable launch.

It was also a good month for RPGs because Digimon Survive is doing perhaps better than expected with an 8th place obtained in 48 hours as well. Bandai Namco can breathe by noting that the license still has followers across the Atlantic and thank the Switch, the platform on which the game seems to have had the most success despite direct competition from Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

If Nintendo is as always very present in this top 20 with no less than 7 titles, the June releases of Mario Strikers: Battle League Football and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes will not have been able to make the pleasure last, unlike the performing Kirby and the Forgotten World and Nintendo Switch Sports.

On the accessory side, the DualSense Midnight Black was the best-selling device in July, but the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller remained in the lead throughout the year, still in value. Sales of accessories represent 1.2 billion dollars since the beginning of the year, a decline of 15%. Finally, Sensor Tower notes a sharp drop in spending on iOS/Android games, the July top 10 of which includes Candy Crush Saga, Roblox, Pokémon GO, Coin Master and Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, but not Diablo Immortal.
