USA-Conviction of drug trafficker El Chapo upheld on appeal

NEW YORK, Jan 25 (Reuters) – A US appellate court on Tuesday upheld the life sentence imposed on former Mexican drug trafficker Joaquin Guzman, known as “El Chapo”, on Tuesday.

The Court of Appeal rejected the arguments presented by Joaquin Guzman in support of his request, in particular when he denounced his living conditions in prison.

Now 64, “El Chapo” was convicted in 2019 of extensive drug trafficking between Mexico and the United States when he was head of the Sinaloa cartel. (Jonathan Stempel; French version Nicolas Delame, spoken by Sophie Louet)
