USA: Improvement in household morale in January


January 19 (Reuters) – American household morale has improved more than expected since the start of January, the first results of the monthly survey from the University of Michigan showed on Friday.

Its confidence index stood at 78.8 compared to 70 anticipated by economists polled by Reuters and 69.7 in December.

The component of consumers’ judgment on their current situation rose to 83.3, after 73.3 and that of prospects to 75.9 against 67.4 in December.

One-year inflation expectations stood at 2.9% compared to 3.1% in December, while those over a five-year horizon remained stable at 2.9%. (Written by Corentin Chappron)
