WASHINGTON, Aug 11 (Reuters) – U.S. jobless claims rose to 262,000 last week from a revised 248,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 263,000 jobless claims.

Registrations for the week to July 30 have been revised down from an initial estimate of 260,000.

The four-week moving average stands at 252,000 against 247,500 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1.428 million during the week to July 30 (the last week for which these figures are available), compared to 1.420 million the previous week. (Report Lindsay Dunsmuir, French version Laetitia Volga, edited by Tangi Salaün)
