USA: Michigan confidence index rises

(CercleFinance.com) – The US household confidence index improved in December: it stood at 70.6 against 67.4 a month earlier, according to the final results of the monthly survey of the University of Michigan.

According to Richard Curtin, who conducted the survey, this increase is attributed to the renewed optimism on the part of the poorest households who expect their income to increase next year, against a backdrop of inflationary pressure.

On the other hand, it is still too early to grasp the impact of Omicron on the economy, he adds.

In detail, the current conditions sub-index goes from 73.6 in November to 74.2 in December and that of consumer expectations goes from 63.5 to 68.3.
