WASHINGTON, June 3 (Reuters) – Growth in U.S. service sector activity slowed in May for the second consecutive month but new orders and employment rebounded, while prices decelerated slightly, shows the Institute for Supply Management’s monthly survey of purchasing managers on Friday.
The services index fell to 55.9 from 57.1 in April, as economists polled by Reuters on average expected a lower figure to 56.4.
The new orders component of the ISM survey, on the other hand, rebounded to 57.6 from 54.6 in April and that of employment to 50.2 from 49.5, returning above the 50 threshold. which separates contraction and expansion.
That of prices paid by service companies slowed to 82.1 after the historic peak recorded in April at 84.6. (Report Lucia Mutikani; French version Claude Chendjou, edited by Sophie Louet)
