The Covid-19 pandemic in Francecase

The government on Wednesday opened the vaccination against Covid to all children aged 5 to 11. At the Richerand health center, in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, all the slots were quickly reserved by volunteer parents who accompanied their offspring.

“Do you know why you are here?” asks in a soft voice Jeanne Villeneuve, doctor and medical director of the Richerand health center, in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. Ay-Leen, 5 and a half, round rose-colored glasses on his nose, looks at his feet, looking embarrassed. Then empty-handed: “The vaccine.” Sitting next to her, Lily-Swan, her twin sister, watches the scene, hilarious. Both came with their parents this Wednesday morning to be vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus. The first because she underwent heart surgery three years earlier and is therefore considered to be at risk for the virus. The second because his parents wanted to take advantage of the meeting to kill two birds with one stone.

The doctor therefore takes out two syringes. Disinfects the binoculars arm. And stings. Two faces and two unicorn dressings later, you’re done. Ay-Leen did release a small tear, quickly forgotten after the caregiver handed her a box full of candy. But nothing more. “I had a small drop of blood”, she has fun afterwards. “I was just a little bigger”, compares Lily-Swan, quite proud of her war wound.

If the two sisters were able to get stung, it is because the vaccination was finally opened to all children from 5 to 11 years old this Wednesday morning. It was already the case for the youngest with co-morbidities. But the government was waiting for the green light from The Covid-19 pandemic in France
