PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones) – Biotech company Valneva said Thursday it is in advanced talks with Scotland’s economic development agency, Scottish Enterprise, over granting a grant to continue work from its factory in Livingston.
Valneva had suspended plans to expand its Scottish site following the cancellation in September by the British government of a supply agreement for the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the group.
“Valneva and Scottish Enterprise have since engaged in a very constructive dialogue aimed, through this grant, at making the Livingston site a key site for vaccine production with a long-term perspective,” said Valneva in a statement.
Scottish Enterprise could pay a total of £ 10-20million in subsidy to allow Valneva to start production at the new plant, Valneva said.
Discussions also focus on the possible supply of doses of its covid-19 vaccine, VLA2001, to Scotland, subject to obtaining marketing authorization.
However, the grant agreement is conditional on the signing of a contract and a final audit, said Valneva.
The group also indicated that it was still seeking an amicable agreement with the British government on the termination of the supply agreement and the execution of the agreement to finance ongoing clinical trials. “Valneva continues to reserve all its rights of legal action in the event that an amicable solution is not found,” he said.
