The co-creator of “Vampire Diaries” is working on a new horror series for young adults and will reunite with one of the stars of the vampire franchise for this new project to be discovered on Prime Video.
Screenwriter, producer and director recognized in the American television industry, Julie Plec specializes in fantastic works for teenagers. She notably worked on Kyle XY, Roswell: New Mexico and The Tomorrow People, but it is mainly for the Vampire Diaries franchise, with its spin-offs The Originals and Legacies, which she co-created with Kevin Williamson, which she enjoyed great success.
Julie Plec also worked on film with one of the masters of horror, Wes Craven, on the Scream franchise, A Vampire in New York and Cursed. Today, the American showrunner is working on a brand new project which allows her to reunite with former colleagues from Vampire Diaries.
Vampire Diaries reunion
According to Deadline, Julie Plec will write and produce a brand new television drama in collaboration with Carina Adly Mackenzie, who had proven herself on The Originals and Roswell: New Mexico. The duo will reunite with a former star of Vampire Diaries: Candice King!
This actress was revealed to the general public with the role of Caroline Forbes which she played in Vampire Diaries, The Originals and Legacies. She is one of the main characters of the franchise, who was the best friend of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham), but also the wife of Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley).
A new series for young adults in the works
Candice King will therefore be the headliner of the new series by Julie Plec and Carina Adly Mackenzie, entitled We Were Liars. This fiction, adapted from the psychological horror novel for young adults of the same name (We the liars, in French) by E. Lockhart.
It follows the wealthy Sinclair family, who spend every summer on their private island of Beechwood. During one of the stays, an incident from the past gradually reveals its secrets to the narrator.
Candice King plays Bess Sinclair, the youngest of three sisters and mother of three who seems to live the perfect life. But according to Deadline, “her perfect family image is dangerously close to shattering…and it may all be her fault”.
The rest of the cast includes Caitlin FitzGerald (Masters of Sex), who will play Penny Sinclair, a dog breeder on the verge of divorce who will do everything to maintain her wealth and power within the family.
And finally, Mamie Gummer (True Detective) will play Carrie Sinclair, who was once the most rebellious of the three sisters. She is now stable and has two sons. But his sobriety will be undermined during this eventful summer.
Produced by Universal Television and Amazon MGM Studios, the series We Were Liars will be available on the Prime Video platform.
The Vampire Diaries series is available on Prime Video and on Netflix in France.
