Fritz boxes are known for their wealth of functions. What most do not know: even the info LEDs on the housing can be used cleverly. We show what the flashing signals mean and how you can configure the LEDs.
Some users are annoyed by the LEDs on the FritzBox. In this article we describe how you can disconnect the link. But you may not have suspected that the FritzBox again offers a few cool additional functions. For example, you can easily configure the info LED and see at a glance whether there is a new message on the answering machine or whether a device is using the WLAN guest access.
FritzBox LEDs at a glance: The WLAN router flashes so colorfully
There are several LEDs on the FritzBox, depending on the model, they are labeled a little differently. This article is mainly about the info LED. If there is nothing to inform, it is switched off. Most of the rest should just shine:
- Power / DSL: When this LED lights up, the FritzBox has power and a DSL connection. If the LED flashes, an attempt is being made to establish the DSL connection.
- Internet: A small telephone receiver symbol can be seen on this LED, which is why a steady light means that a VoIP connection exists. Flashing means there is a message on the mailbox.
- Landline: This LED lights up when there is a fixed network connection, and a blinking indicates a mailbox message.
- Connect / WPS: This LED is usually off, but flashes when you register a device via WPS.
- WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS: Continuous light is also good here, then WLAN is activated. Blinking can have several meanings, such as accepting settings or switching the wireless network off and on.
This is shown by the info LED
A flashing info LED has different meanings in the delivery status:
- Update is being imported.
- WLAN security settings are transferred to a WLAN stick.
- A cordless telephone is registered on the FritzBox.
- A smart home device is registered with the FritzBox
On the other hand, if the info LED flashes red and lights up, this indicates an error.
Configure the info LED
You can assign an additional function to the info LED via the FritzBox interface. This works under “System” in the “Buttons and LEDs” area. In the “Freely selectable” area, you can simply specify the preferred function. The choices are:
