Italy scored its first victory in two years in the Six Nations Tournament by beating Scotland 31-29 (half-time: 16-22) on Saturday in Rome. The Azzurri’s previous success dates back to March 2022, against Wales in Cardiff (22-21). They won their 14th victory in the Tournament since their debut in the event in 2000, their eighth against Scotland.
The Nazionale won thanks to four tries scored by Juan Ignacio Brex (15th), Louis Lynagh, son of Australian legend Michael Lynagh who was making his debut in the azzurro jersey (44th), and Stephen Varney (57th) Paolo Garbisi, unfortunate hero of the draw two weeks ago against France (13-13) with his penalty for the missed victory at the last minute, scored three penalties and scrum half Martin Page-Relo a fourth (39th).

First home victory in the Tournament in 11 years
Italy, which had not won at home in the Tournament since March 2013, jumped thanks to this improved victory to 4th place with seven points while it had finished in 6th and last place during the eight editions previous tournaments. It was the first victory for Italy’s new Argentinian coach, Gonzalo Quesada, who took charge of the Nazionale after the World Cup.
For Scotland, still second, who had scored three tries in the first period, this defeat seriously compromises their quest for a first title in the Tournament since 1999, while Ireland can be titled in the event of a favorable result against England Saturday afternoon (5:45 p.m.).
