Guest on the show Clickbroadcast on Canal+ this Tuesday, April 30, Juliette Binoche spoke about Judith Godrèche’s courageous speaking out during the 2024 César Awards. She also reacted to the latter’s accusations against directors Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon, who shook the world of seventh Art. “I was very happy that she spoke,” she first declared, before adding: “We need these words, it’s very important.”

Questioned by Mouloud Achour on the possibility that “things change” in the world of cinema thanks in particular to the speech of her colleague and her statements in the media on the sexual assaults suffered while she was still a minor, Juliette Binoche nevertheless had to face the facts: “If men recognize, speak, hear and express themselves, that will change. We are waiting for these reactions, but I feel that men are sticking together, saying to themselves: ‘But what is this story, what is this? -what they want from us, we have done nothing wrong…’ But recognize, as a man [qu’il y a des agresseurs et des agressions, NDLR]it changes everything.”

As for the fact that “fear has[urait] changed sides” thanks to the numerous testimonies of actresses and women who have suffered rape and other unacceptable acts, Benoît Magimel’s ex-partner was uncompromising: “No, I don’t hope so, because the idea is not to scare, but to recognize the pain that has been experienced. It’s important to be heard and to express it.” Before clarifying his remarks: “If men or women hurt others, it is important that there is a dialogue, otherwise, we always remain in a lack of recognition.” Then rejoicing at the positive impact that the media had in freeing the words of these victims who became survivors, by highlighting their testimonies, the 60-year-old actress recalled that it is “fundamental” that men join the MeToo movement alongside women: “From the moment we are heard and listened to, first we exist differently and the pain, if it is heard, it already hurts a little less.”
