It is a bluffing feat that the two Frenchmen Fred Fugen and Vincent Cotte have achieved. Dropped from a plane at an altitude of 1,500 m, these two specialists in extreme aerial sports were filmed on Thursday flying close to the pyramids of Giza in Egypt, spinning at a top speed of 250 km / h and even grazing the pyramid of Khafre.

“It’s super impressive”, Fred Fugen told AFP. “We are extremely focused throughout the approach and as we pass, it’s an explosion of joy. What is really impressive is that we feel very small. We realize the size of This construction, we distinguish the size of each block. We are midges! It was brilliant! “
Eight jumps for a one minute video
The video project (RedBull.com) was made possible by an Egyptian parachuting school, Skydive Egypt, which enabled the team to obtain full clearances. In total, eight jumps were necessary to provide a one-minute video in which we see the two men pass on either side of the pyramids and then on the same side, before opening their parachutes to land on the ground.
This flight as close as possible to the monuments was made possible thanks to a technique developed by Fred Fugen and Vince Reffet (who died a year ago), called “the resource”. “It allows you to be able to climb back up. In a wingsuit, since you don’t have an engine, you are subject to gravity, you are always descending. The resource allows you to pass very close to the ground, to go back up and to open. the parachute in complete safety “, said Fred Fugen.

Fugen and Reffet, the Soul Flyers, had inaugurated this technique during a flight near a lighthouse. It is also this mode that Fugen used last May to fly over the sacred cedars of Lebanon, leveling the tops. After the pyramids, it is therefore a new objective that the specialist in this type of aerial performance has set for himself. “There is a place where I would like to fly, it is the Eiffel Tower. To fly above Paris and next to the Eiffel Tower and to land on the Champs de Mars, it is an absolute dream, a thing we had in mind for a long time with Vince “, he projects.
