Footballer banned for life after mass brawl

The verdicts are consistent: after a brawl in Hamburg amateur football, two men are never allowed to play in the club again. That’s the verdict of the sports court of the Hamburg Football Association. A total of nine players will be banned.
Bruises, lacerations, broken bones: After a mass brawl at a district class game, the sports court of the Hamburg Football Association (HFV) banned nine players, two of them for life. “We have never seen anything like this in this form,” said judge Christian Koops, according to NDR.
In the approximately 90-minute hearing, video recordings of the events of the match in March between FC Bergedorf 85 II and TuS Hamburg II were shown. The witnesses included TuS players and the referee. Eight Bergedorfers and one TuS player have now been banned by the HFV.
As expected, the verdicts were harsh on the players who stayed away from the trial. While most got away with game suspensions, two amateurs were banned for life. You can never play football in a club again in Hamburg. Another has to sit out for three years.

Bergedorf had already taken consequences shortly after the game and signed off his team, which had caused the escalation of violence in the canceled game. Club chairman Ali Sözen apologized and branded the players’ behavior as antisocial, according to the NDR report. That doesn’t belong on the soccer field.
Also in court, the chairman and the youth leader apologized again on behalf of the association and announced preventive measures. However, they were the only ones who had appeared from the Bergedorf side. “FC Bergedorf still has to name a player and a spectator who were also involved,” said HFV managing director Carsten Byernetzki of “Mopo”, also praising the prudent behavior of the referee.
Some actors are also threatened with criminal penalties. TuS Hamburg had reported physical injuries. The police and the public prosecutor’s office are still dealing with these.
