Virtus.pro players will still be able to participate in the ESL Pro League under a neutral name

This is in a report published by Dexerto that we learn today that the team of the Russian organization Virtus.pro could participate in future ESL Pro League tournaments on CS:GO. Last week, the ESL announced, following the invasion of Ukraine, that Russian teams being directly or indirectly linked to the Russian government could not participate in its competitions. Two teams were concerned by these sanctions, Virtus.pro and Gambit. However, the tournament organizer esports did not object to the fact that the teams could still participate in the tournament, without representing their structure in their branding. As a result, they should be able to participate in tournaments, than by having a neutral name.

Virtus.pro has taken a stand by proclaiming not be connected to the Russian government, while bringing documents to the ESL as a witness. However, the ESL did not lift its ban and the organization did not fail to show its displeasure calling for action from cancel culture. The Russian organization therefore declared that the members of its roster, made up of two Russian players and two Kazhakhstani players and a Latvian could however if they wished, participate in the tournaments under a different name. From the Gambit side, there has still been no official statement.

However, Mareks “YEKINDAR” Galinskisthe team’s Latvian player said in an interview given to Sportacentrsthat in view of the flight restrictions and sanctions that could affect their team, the future was still uncertain. It is therefore not yet known whether they will actually be able to participate in the ESL Pro League. which will begin on March 9.
