In a few days the Wacken Open Air will take place. Due to the weather, the organizers had to stop the journey for the time being.

Many metal fans are already looking forward to this year’s Wacken Open Air, which takes place from August 2nd to 5th. The bad weather is likely to have dampened the good mood for some at the moment, because the organizers have to interrupt the arrival of festival visitors for the time being.

“There is sometimes rain at festivals. […] But rarely so much,” it says, among other things on the official homepage and on Instagram. Therefore, the planned camping areas are currently not passable. So you have to “interrupt the journey to the W:O:A for this reason” for the time being. The organizers assure that the preparations for the event are still going as planned.

“Please stop your arrival”

Currently, one has to assume that only up to a quarter of the vehicles planned for Monday can be accommodated on site. The organizers also say: “Please stop your journey and look for a suitable waiting place where you are until we can inform you that the situation has improved.” One is looking for alternative areas where travelers can spend the night if necessary. So far, the red car park at the Hamburger Volksparkstadion has been available for this purpose.

Due to the high rainfall, it is also possible that not all planned areas will be available at a later date. Hence the request to move closer together in order to be able to fill the available space as well as possible.

One wants to inform all visitors on all channels when the situation relaxes – this includes the homepage, social media and own Wacken app. Until then, metal fans should postpone their arrival if they are not yet there, the organizers ask.

“We are currently assuming that everyone will be able to move into their campsite, but not as desired, but with a delay,” it says by the organizers to the “Bild” newspaper. According to this, there are already several thousand people on the site.

This year’s headliners include British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Heaven Shall Burn, Helloween and German metal queen Doro (59). With the Dropkick Murphys, Pennywise or the Donots, some big names from the more punk camp are represented again this time.
