Waga Energy: bank loan granted by Bpifrance – 08/30/2023 at 08:15

(CercleFinance.com) – Waga Energy announces that it has obtained a long-term, non-recourse bank loan in the amount of 6.6 million euros from Bpifrance to finance its biomethane production unit started up on June 20 near Barcelona.

This loan will make it possible to reimburse the equity contributions made by the group for the commissioning of this unit, its first in Spain, which is installed on the PreZero waste storage site in Els Hostalets de Pierola, in Catalonia.

Thanks to Wagabox technology, this equipment produces biomethane by purifying the gas emitted by the degradation of organic matter contained in the waste. Its renewable gas production is then injected directly into the local gas network.

The unit will supply 70 GWh of biomethane per year, equivalent to the annual consumption of 14,000 Spanish households or 200 heavy vehicles. Its commissioning will prevent the emission of around 17,000 tonnes of eqCO2 by replacing fossil natural gas.

Waga Energy fully financed the construction of this equipment, as well as its connection to the local gas network. Since its commissioning, it has generated income by reselling the biomethane under a long-term private purchase contract.
