Thousands protest again against Corona rules

According to a judgment from Karlsruhe, the ban on spontaneous “walks” against Corona rules remains in place. But this Monday, several thousand people took to the streets across Germany to demonstrate against the measures.

Thousands of people took to the streets again in numerous cities in the evening against the current corona measures. Hundreds of people demonstrated in Rostock despite a ban on all demonstrations. According to the police, they had got together in several groups of up to 70 people and moved through the city. Several people were taken into custody and observers reported firecrackers being thrown. A police spokeswoman described the situation as tense.

According to the police, around 5,000 critics of the Corona policy gathered in Pforzheim, the protest remained peaceful. Not far from there, around 500 people formed a human chain as a sign of solidarity during the pandemic. According to the police, around 1,300 people took part in a peaceful demonstration in Lübeck against corona restrictions and a possible general obligation to vaccinate.

Numerous protests in Brandenburg

In Brandenburg there were demonstrations against Corona requirements in Cottbus, Potsdam, Eberswalde, Fürstenberg and Neuruppin. In the state capital of Potsdam, hundreds of people walked through the city center accompanied by whistles and horns, as a dpa reporter observed. In three districts north of Berlin, the police counted over 2,000 demonstrators, in Oranienburg alone there were more than 1,000. In Cottbus, around 800 people demonstrated.

The Federal Constitutional Court has meanwhile refused to override a municipal ban on unannounced corona “walks” with immediate effect. On Monday, the judges in Karlsruhe rejected the urgent application of a man who wanted to overturn the general decree of the city of Freiburg. However, they left open the question of whether a precautionary ban on assembly can be compatible with the meaning and scope of the constitutionally protected freedom of assembly. The clarification is reserved for the main proceedings, it said in the decision, which was published in the afternoon.
