Wall Street: towards new records while waiting for the ISM

The New York Stock Exchange seems well on its way to opening new records on Tuesday morning pending the publication of a closely monitored indicator of the manufacturing sector.

Half an hour before the opening, futures contracts on the main New York indices advanced 0.2% 0.4%, announcing a start to the session in the green.

As Wall Street moves close to its all-time highs, investors should study ISM manufacturing, which will fall early in the session, with the idea of seeing the chances of a continuation of the recent end-of-year rally. anne.

Regional indices show that morale has so far remained high among American manufacturers, less exposed to rising gas prices than their European counterparts.

The ISM index has also spent most of the year 2021 beyond the threshold of 60 points.

More generally, any data likely to provide indications on the health of the American economy, and therefore on the pace of the monetary tightening envisaged by the Fed, will be closely scrutinized.

Among the most anticipated indicators for the coming week are the monthly employment figures in the United States, due on Friday.

Good numbers would undoubtedly strengthen the likelihood of further rate hikes from the central authority.

Yet the normalization of Fed policy does not seem to frighten the market, mainly because of its very gradual nature and the cautious communication put in place by the central bank.

The markets do not seem to be moved, either, by the recent rise in bond yields, which yesterday translated into a sharp strain on 10-year Treasuries, whose yield climbed 13 basis points to reach 1. 64%.

Its rate is stretched a little more this morning, close to 1.68%, without causing a stir in the stock markets for the moment.
