An elderly woman died on Monday evening in a fire in an apartment building in Graz-Waltendorf.
For a previously unknown cause, a fire broke out on Monday in an apartment on Burgfriedweg in Graz. A neighbor noticed that someone else in the apartment wanted to help, but couldn’t get through to the source of the fire.
The Graz professional fire brigade moved out at 7.30 p.m. and was able to fight the flames successfully, but any help came too late for a woman in the apartment.
Police are investigating
After the rescue, only death could be determined. The older woman is likely to be the resident of the apartment – the Styrian State Criminal Police Office is now investigating details to clarify. According to initial information, however, third-party negligence should be ruled out.
The apartment is on the ground floor of an apartment building, other residential units were not hit by the flames.
