What is "WandaVision" about, when does the series take place and what does it mean for the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Here are the answers.

From January 15th, all subscribers to the Disney + streaming service will get a new chapter from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then there will be the first two episodes of the series "WandaVision" with Elizabeth Olsen (31) and Paul Bettany (49), before the remaining seven will also be released on Fridays on a weekly basis. Here are the answers to the most pressing questions about Wanda Maximoff (Olsen) and Visions (Bettany) foray into a 1950s sci-fi world.

Why is?

This question is not that easy to answer – not even for representatives of the US media who were allowed to watch the first three episodes. Wanda and Vision seem to live the black and white idyll of a 1950s suburban sitcom. They try to hide their supernatural powers as best they can from their discreetly annoying neighbors. But little by little, they not only begin to question the world around them, they also travel through the decades of TV history.

What is it?

"WandaVision" is conceived as a mini-series and will therefore consist of a single season. Matt Shakman, the show's director, called it a "love letter to the history of television". Consequently, the meta level plays an important role and elements from classic US sitcoms such as "The Dick Van Dyke Show" or "In love with a witch" are taken up. This also includes imitating the respective TV aesthetics of the individual epochs. In addition, in the typical sitcom tradition, the episodes are only around 30 minutes long.

Who is playing?

In addition to Olsen and Bettany, there will be a reunion with other well-known characters from the MCU. For example with Darcy Lewis, played by Kat Dennings (34). Moviegoers first met her in 2011 in "Thor" with Chris Hemsworth (37). At that time Darcy Lewis was still the intern of scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman, 39), in "WandaVision" she made it to the science doctor herself. And the character Monica Rambeau also appears in the series. She was still a child with Brie Larson (31) in the film "Captain Marvel", the adult version is played by actress Teyonah Parris (33) in "WandaVision".

When does it play?

That's an interesting point. Because "WandaVision" takes place after "Avengers: Endgame". Fans of the Marvel blockbusters know that Vision is one of the few characters who actually ended up paying with their lives to fight Thanos. So how can he be alive on the show? Is it just a fantasy of the grieving Wanda alias Scarlet Witch? She would have the powers to deceive herself …

How does it fit into the MCU?

Kevin Feige (47) showed himself to be a master at interweaving the Marvel films and giving them a joint finale with "Endgame". Feige was also responsible for "WandaVision" as the producer. The events in it are said to have a direct influence on Benedict Cumberbatch's (44) second solo appearance called "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness", March 2022 was announced.
