War in Ukraine: exfiltrations, evacuation exercises… aircraft movements from Moscow that raise questions

Russian airspace has been experiencing a flurry of activity in recent days. And for good reason, since Thursday March 17, several dozen planes have taken off from Moscow in the direction of the East, before immediately returning to the Russian capital, arousing curiosity and questioning.

These planes would be aircraft of the Russian armed forces, but also private jets, according to information relayed by the Huffington Post.

These flights could thus be evacuation exercises, exfiltrations of high Russian dignitaries or even a message from the Kremlin towards a form of “declaratory escalation”, according to CIOa magazine specializing in geostrategic and military issues.

For other specialists, on the other hand, the frequency of the flights would not be surprising, any more than the direction of the planes towards the East. This destination would indeed be explained by the closure of European airspace, prohibited to Russian aircraft.

So many hypotheses, but the real reasons for these trips still remain obscure.

For the time being, fighting continues in Ukraine and these aircraft movements come as Vladimir Poutine denounced “national traitors” and spoke of “a necessary purification of society.

For his part, President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to demand the establishment of a no-fly zone over his country to put an end to the bombardments of Russian planes on Ukrainian cities.
