War in Ukraine: in Lviv, a church shelters refugees

St. Nicholas Church in the historic center of Lviv has become a place of asylum for Ukrainians fleeing the fighting.

“Since the beginning of the offensive, members of this community wondered what they could do. At the moment, people from the bombarded towns come here to find a roof and protect their children from the destroyed towns,” a priest explains to our special envoys.

Help is also pouring into this church, including basic necessities. “We received several calls, including from abroad, to find out about our needs, as well as offers of accommodation”, explains the priest.

In western Ukraine, hundreds of churches like the one in Lviv have opened their doors.
