War in Ukraine: Russia wants to host Euro 2028 or 2032

Russia has announced its desire to organize Euro 2028 or 2032 despite the suspension of its teams because of the war in Ukraine.

This is a surprising announcement. Currently engaged in the middle of the war in Ukraine and singled out from all sides, Russia still has sporting ambitions.

After hosting the 2018 World Cup which saw the coronation of the France team (against Croatia) and certain matches of Euro 2021, the Russians, who saw themselves withdrawing the Champions League final in Saint -Petersburg this year intend to apply to host the European Championship 2028 or 2032. A decision was taken at a meeting of the executive committee of the Russian Football Union.

“We are going to submit an application for the organization of the 2028 and 2032 European Championships, said Sergei Anokhin, member of the board of directors of the RFU (Russian Football Federation), on the site of the broadcaster Match TV.

“The RFU will apply for the 2028 and 2032 European Championships, it’s not a joke, supported Rustem Saymanov, general manager of the Rubin Kazan club. We have organized many high level competitions. We have requested documents to study all the requirements, we will wait.”
