Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin wants to hit hard on PC and consoles

We had the chance to attend a presentation hands off of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin a few days ago. The English from Frontier Developments (Elite Dangerous, Planet Zoo, Jurassic World Evolution) promise great things for their future RTS in the Warhammer world.

Age of Miniatures

The studio first of all insisted on the graphical fidelity of the title to the figurines of tabletop games. The units of Realms of Ruin were designed and modeled from their alterego of metal and plastic made in Games Workshop. These protagonists will go and beat their faces with axes and hammers in the Kingdom of Ghur, wild lands of beasts, where the law of the strongest reigns. In the campaign, co-written by Gavin Thorpe (well-known to readers of Black Library books), the Stormcast Eternals (or the Storm Eternals in the language of those who say “Chocolatine”), will face the Kruleboyz, faction of the Orruk determined to make Ghur their home for good. Frontier Developments has clarified that this Age of Sigmar adventure will be based on Dawnbringer’s Crusades from the latest edition of the tabletop game.

To be completely hammer

Besides the single player mode, the studio has confirmed that there will be several multiplayer modes cross platform in 1v1 and 2v2. In addition to the Stormcast Eternals and the Orruk, two other factions will join the cast to do battle. As in any good self-respecting RTS, to achieve victory, you will have to collect resources, improve your troops through technology trees, and control strategic points on the map, while crushing enemy forces. Let’s add that the studio has a specific control system for controller players, called “DirectStep”. This would allow control via the analog sticks and a few well-felt button presses to quickly switch from one squad to another and give them orders. According to the press release, “this system will offer Xbox and PlayStation gamers the flexibility and responsiveness of mouse and keyboard“. The promise is beautiful, but we can hear keyboard / mouse enthusiasts laughing from here.

The publisher also announced that Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin will offer two open multiplayer betas on all platforms. Dates should be announced soon. A first gameplay trailer will be released in June. For more details on Realms of Ruinyou can now visit the official website dedicated to the game. For now, no official release date has been set.
