Warmth package put together – “No apartment should stay cold in Carinthia”

Caritas and Kelag are networking and putting together a heat package that should reach those affected as quickly as possible – because “no apartment should stay cold”. Financial help, but also help to save are needed.

Around 90,000 people in Carinthia live at the so-called risk of poverty threshold, which is assumed to be 1371 euros a month. Up to 8,000 people come to the Caritas social counseling center when the threshold threatens to be exceeded. Wire between the aid organization and the electricity provider Often it is also about the fact that energy costs can no longer be managed. Kelag also knows that their customers do not go to them first, but to organizations such as Caritas, which is why a direct line has now been laid between the aid organization and the electricity provider. Caritas examines each case and puts those who are eligible for support on a list that Kelag can see, which is then processed with immediate aid. Help for indirect customers, too and exchanging or writing off invoices. With district heating also with an immediate payment of 250 euros. And not only for direct Kelag customers, but also for indirect ones who do not have a contract themselves and who, for example, obtain electricity as tenants from a cooperative which also includes information on how to save electricity properly. “Some warm themselves with an iron to save on heating costs.”
