Warzone 2 reportedly in development for release in 2023

While Warzone Pacific is still fresh, Activision reportedly plans to launch a new version of Battle Royale in 2023.

Outside of major annual updates that bring new Call of Duty games into Warzone, Battle Royale remains largely independent.

However, according to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, Warzone 2 is currently in development at Activision.

This information is part of a larger report that clarifies the status of Call of Duty on the PlayStation platform following Microsoft’s acquisition of publisher Activision Blizzard for over $70 billion.

Warzone is said to be ready for a full new iteration, rather than a standard update.

However, at the moment we don’t know much else about it. We don’t know which Activision studios are assigned to the project or what the specific goals will be.

We could see major gameplay overhauls, new systems, bigger in-game events, or just a less buggy experience in general.

Every new Warzone update usually comes with a series of game-breaking bugs, leading many to ask for a “fresh start.”

However, Jason Schreier claims that the next three CoDs will remain within Sony’s ecosystem. This not only includes the main titles from Infinity Ward and Treyarch, which will be released in 2022 and 2023 respectively, but also this new iteration of Warzone.

At this time, it’s unclear which maps or weapons will carry over to the new era of Warzone.

And while we don’t yet know exactly which systems will be supported, Warzone 2 could well welcome players on all platforms or it could be a leap forward for Battle Royale, focusing only on the latest technology.

Tom Henderson, a famous industry leaker, says Activision is focusing on the latter possibility. “A completely new game for better hardware.” he explained.

As soon as we have new information about Warzone 2, we will let you know.
