We are not in bed: Aymeric Caron looks back on his departure, “I was relieved”

This Monday, January 31, 2022, Aymeric Caron was invited to the program Culture Médias, on Europe 1. Seven years after leaving We are not lying, the journalist agreed to return to his departure.

That was almost ten years ago! At the start of the 2012 school year, Aymeric Caron replaced Audrey Pulvar on the show We are not in bedpresented by Laurent Ruquierbroadcast every Saturday in the second half of the evening, on France 2. While he had sometimes had very tense exchanges with certain guests and been criticized for his “arrogance“, it was finally in 2015 that he left his seat to Yann Moix. Asked about his departure from the show, it was at the microphone of Europe 1 that Aymeric Caron confided: “It was three years, and it was three extremely pleasant years with interviews, meetings that mark a journalist… It was very intense, I was also a little relieved when it stopped so I found that the three-year period was goodbut in any case, I keep a very good memory!

Assuring that there had been a before and an after, Aymeric Caron explained: “Before, I was a journalist, let’s say, quite classic in terms of career : former great reporter, then I carried sections on news channels, on Canal, on Europe 1 (…) And when Laurent (Ruquier, editor’s note) chose me for We are not lying, obviously, au- beyond the fact that we were suddenly very exposed, there’s also the fact that we’re asked to position ourselves on certain subjects and there, suddenly, we lose a form of neutrality which is only apparent in reality, to suddenly become committed personalities.

Aymeric Caron: “Your family may be threatened”

A week earlier, it’s on the show Yes Hustleavailable on YouTube that Natacha Polony’s former sidekick had confided: “After spending three years on a show where it was a lot of work… It was controversies in which I was involved in spite of myself with Caroline Fourest in particular…“, before quickly adding: “There was fatigue after three years. I needed to move on, to find calm and serenity. I also needed to write because it was a solitary exercise, it was beneficial.“While he regularly received death threats, the journalist concluded:”I discovered that to take certain positions without any excess, can be worth threats to you today. Your family can be threatened, it’s one of the things that made me want to take a step back and leave the media scene. The consequences to be paid were completely disproportionate.
