"We have experienced doctors who forced us to listen to heartbeats", two deputies tell their abortions bluntly

The National Assembly has just said yes to extending the abortion period. Before the vote, two members of Parliament (Clémentine Autain and Aurore Berger) told the podium to have had recourse to abortion, during a strong political sequence.

On October 8, 2020, the National Assembly voted in favor of extending the legal period for resorting to abortion, which could drop from 12 to 14 weeks after the onset of pregnancy. A major breakthrough for women's rights, which required hard work of conviction on the part of the defenders of the project. During the debates preceding the vote, Clémentine Autain (FI MP for the 11th district of Seine-Saint-Denis) then Aurore Berger (LaRem MP for Yvelines) dared to speak to testify to their experiences. Both have aborted and, despite the stigma surrounding theAbortions, have recounted the fear of exceeding the legal deadline or even certain violence from the medical profession, such as the obligation to listen to the fetal heartbeat via an ultrasound machine.

Broadcast live and then shared on networks by LCP, these sequences are currently widely repeated, and the two members of Parliament, hailed for their commitment to a fundamental right.
We still have to wait for the Senate vote for the extension to become effective.
