While waiting for our test Phantom Liberty scheduled for September 20, we had the chance to return to Night City a little early.

The highly anticipated expansion will be released on September 26, and the major update 2.0 deployed for free on Cyberpunk 2077, which will bring its share of changes to the gameplay, will be released on September 21, exactly one week. This is what we are going to focus on today, just to keep our impressions of what awaits you in Dogtown in a proper test. Time for the briefing, future agents of the New United States of America!

Free installation of new implants for everyone

It’s been a few days since, through CD Projekt RED, we had the immense privilege of playing on PC Cyberpunk 2077 in its version 2.0, and by extension to Phantom Liberty. The opportunity for us to see in action what was announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live, and illustrated in the video below.

This major update (which seems to want to heat up our poor processors) will be deployed for free on the original game on September 21, and will therefore not require the acquisition of Phantom Liberty. In order to try all this, we, not without a certain emotion, resumed our very first part, which we had not relaunched since 2021. Nostalgia, when you hold us…

But upon arriving at this new version of Cyberpunk 2077, our habits and our extremely powerful build, even at the maximum difficulty level, have been greatly disrupted. The skill system and cybernetic equipment have indeed undergone a major overhaul, asking us to reallocate our attribute and advantage points, and also return to see a charcudoc to get a chrome makeover.

Regarding implants, we are particularly faced with a capacity limit, which can only be exceeded by investing points in the “Technique” skill tree. It is also thanks to cybernetic equipment that we will be able to develop our armor, serving to reduce the damage suffered. So, to a large extent, the statistics linked to clothing are gone, which… now have mainly cosmetic utility.

A real renewal for Cyberpunk 2077

It took us a few minutes to get used to these new features and try to redo our original build, focused on melee combat, stealth and hacking. Never mind, once the theorycrafting was finished, this profound overhaul of the gameplay allowed us to rediscover Cyberpunk 2077 in a totally new and devilishly enjoyable light.

We indeed took great pleasure in reconnecting with our character and his new abilities, which, in our opinion, masterfully revitalized the formula of the original game. But V is not the only person to have benefited from these new features. The artificial intelligence of law enforcement and enemies in general has indeed been strengthened. And suffice to say that those who found the maximum difficulty too easy risk breaking their teeth violently. Our adversaries have indeed become extremely deadly and do not hesitate to hack us, flank us or send grenades at us to force us to take risks, which can be very costly.

Finally, update 2.0 will please fans of GTA, with real nervous chases, notably against the police, whose wanted index will climb over time, until the formidable Max-Tac squad decides that it is time to put everyone agreement. In each skill tree, we will be able to invest a point to unlock abilities in this sense, such as the ability to jump from a moving vehicle to catch our pursuers off guard.

With this major gameplay overhaul, Cyberpunk 2077 thus comes pleasantly close to a much-hoped-for definitive version, whose narrative pinnacle is very logically nothing other than the extension Phantom Liberty, expected on September 26 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. But to give you a debrief of our mission in Dogtown, we will have to wait for our test scheduled for September 20 at 5 p.m. (Paris time). Stay tuned, chooms!
