Wearing FFP2 proportionally ?: Politicians call for an end to the mask requirement

Wearing FFP2 proportionally?
Politicians are calling for an end to the mask requirement

The debate about an end to the mask requirement is picking up speed. After FDP Vice Kubicki is already vehemently promoting it, Justice Minister Lambrecht jumps up and points out above all the stress on the students. Health expert Lauterbach warns of an “election campaign with the health of the citizens”.

In the flaring discussion about an end to the mask requirement, CSU regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt urged caution. It is correct that the proportionality of Corona measures has to be checked again and again, said Dobrindt in the ZDF program “Berlin direkt”. Here one also has to distinguish between inside and outside. “I can well imagine that we will omit the mask requirement where it still exists outside,” emphasized Dobrindt. This decision will be made by the federal states. However, he advises caution for indoor spaces, also with a view to more contagious virus mutations. Therefore, one should not be careless here.

Federal Minister of Justice Christine Lambrecht had emphasized in the “Bild am Sonntag” that the federal states would have to clarify “whether and where a mask requirement is still proportionate if the incidence numbers are low and continue to fall”. This is a burden, especially for students who have to wear masks for hours in class.

Kubicki: Do not restrict fundamental rights across the board

FDP Vice Wolfgang Kubicki called for a complete end to the mask requirement in view of the current figures. “With a clear incidence below 35, the state may not restrict any basic rights for all citizens. The general mask requirement would therefore have to be lifted if the Infection Protection Act is strictly interpreted, especially outside,” said Kubicki of “Bild am Sonntag”.

The deputy AfD chairman Beatrix von Storch said on ZDF: “The mask requirement must go. It can no longer be justified. It is the most visible expression of the state of emergency. It must now be ended. We have to show our face again.”

The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach, however, warned that the demand for a complete abolition of the mask requirement was “an election campaign with the health of the citizens”. Of course, the mask requirement can be lifted almost everywhere outside, there is no superspreading there. “But inside, unfortunately,” Lauterbach warned on Twitter.
