  • In the top battle of Group B, hosts Finland have to accept their first defeat against Sweden (2:3 nP).
  • After the surprise win against the Czech Republic, a 3:5 defeat against Norway brings the Austrians back to earth.
  • In the “Swiss group” against France, Italy still has to let their butter be taken from their bread and misses out on their first win at this World Cup.
  • Switzerland again celebrates the 4th success in the 4th game against Slovakia.

Group B

Finland – Sweden 2:3 nP – Finland lost the prestige duel against eternal rivals Sweden and missed the leap to the top of the table. The Olympic champion lost to Sweden in Tampere after penalties. Emil Bemström became the match winner as the only accurate player in the shootout. The Swedish lead by Adam Larsson (12th) was turned around in the middle third by Mikko Lehtonen (24th) and Geneva’s Sami Vatanen (26th). Joel Kellman (47th) saved the “blue-yellow” in extra time.

Norway 5-3 Austria – A day after the surprise success against the Czech Republic (2:1 nP) Austria suffered a setback in the fight against relegation. The team with the Swiss coaching team Roger Bader/Arno Del Curto reduced the score against Norway to 3:4 with just under 4 minutes to go. An empty netter from Martin Ronnild sealed the defeat shortly before the end. All three goals of the Austrians came from a majority.

Group A

France – Italy 2:1 aet – Italy narrowly missed their first win in the fourth group match at the World Cup in Finland. The Italians held the lead with 66 seconds remaining at the Helsinki Ice Hall before Sacha Treille equalized six against five. In extra time, it took the French just 64 seconds to score the winning goal. Hugo Gallet scored to make it 2-1 after assists from Lausanne’s Tim Bozon. The still winless Italy, like Kazakhstan, is increasingly becoming a relegation candidate. On the other hand, France, which has moved up for Russia, has almost secured its place in the top division. With 5 points now, a lot would have to happen for the French to be relegated.
