On New Year’s Eve, a 31-year-old cyclist died in a traffic accident in Weggis, as the Lucerne police announced on Saturday afternoon. The man crashed into a car just after 2 p.m. on Friday that was about to turn. Another cyclist was slightly injured.
The affected vehicle was traveling from Vitznau on the cantonal road in the direction of Weggis. At the Gotthardstrasse junction, the driver intended to turn left. At the same time, two cyclists drove on the cantonal road from Weggis in the direction of Vitznau. The 31-year-old cyclist crashed violently against the right side of the passenger car turning. In the collision, he sustained fatal head injuries. The second cyclist also crashed into the car and was slightly injured.
The main road between Weggis and Vitznau had to be closed for several hours to record the accident. The Emmen public prosecutor’s office is investigating the fatal accident.
