Maya and Ethan Hawke have opened up about their famous show business family. The actor jokingly refers to himself as “Nepo-Dad”.
Young actress Maya Hawke, 25, who is known from the Netflix series “Stranger Things”, among other things, jokingly described her very special show business family in a new interview. Hawke is the daughter of Hollywood stars Ethan Hawke, 52, and Uma Thurman, 53. The 25-year-old actress describes her famous, scandal-free family clan in conversation with “Variety” as “the boring indie Kardashians.”
Ethan Hawke: “I’m a Nepo Dad”
Daughter Maya Hawke just posed for her famous father Ethan. She stars in the biopic “Wildcat,” about novelist Flannery O’Connor (1925-1964), while papa Ethan directs. The mime, who became known among other things through the 90s cult classic “Reality Bites”, makes fun of the implicit accusation that his daughter is a so-called “Nepo-Baby” in conversation with the US medium.
“Put simply, I’m a Nepo-Dad! And I’m not embarrassed,” Hawke told Variety. The term refers to people who have benefited from nepotism (also called nepotism). The company’s main focus is on celebrity children who have built their own careers in the modeling, music or acting business. The Internet is therefore discussing whether these “Nepo-Babies” would have celebrated their great success without the influence of their famous parents. Examples include Johnny Depps, 60, daughter Lily-Rose Depp, 24, model Leni Klum, 19, or Maya Hawke.
According to her own statement, she is not worried about the not exactly flattering label. Although she has experienced “moments of uncertainty” in this regard in the past, in her opinion “the Internet” also “does not have many nuances”. Her famous acting father was “a great teacher” for her. That’s why she wasn’t worried about working with him.
“If someone wants to criticize us for working together, that’s perfectly fair,” agrees her father, Ethan Hawke. Ultimately, it would be about “doing a good job when you’re on stage.”
Maya Hawke’s career highlights so far
Like his former wife Uma Thurman, Ethan Hawke has had a long and successful Hollywood career. His most famous films include “Dead Poets Society” (1989), “Before Sunrise” (1995) and “Training Day” (2001). Hawke was married to Tarantino regular Uma Thurman (“Pulp Fiction”, “Kill Bill”) from 1998 to 2005. In addition to daughter Maya, the marriage also produced son Levon Hawke, 21, who also works as an actor.
Maya Hawke, meanwhile, celebrated her big breakthrough in 2019 with the Netflix series “Stranger Things”, in the same year she also stood in front of the camera for legendary director Quentin Tarantino, 60, in “Once Upon a Time In … Hollywood”, and will will soon be seen in Bradley Cooper’s, 48, biopic “Maestro” about the composer Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990).
