West Bank: Major operation by the Israeli army in Ramallah

RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) – The Israeli army carried out a major operation in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, on Sunday night, killing a 16-year-old boy in a refugee camp, Palestinian sources said on Monday .

Witnesses said dozens of Israeli military vehicles entered the city, headquarters of the Palestinian Authority led by Mahmoud Abbas.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that a 16-year-old boy, Moustafa Abu Shalbak, was killed by the Israeli army during an intervention in the Al-Am’ari refugee camp.

Clashes broke out following the operation in the camp, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, which reported that “shots were fired in the direction of young Palestinians”.

The Israeli army said it carried out a six-hour “anti-terrorist operation” in the refugee camp, during which two “wanted suspects” were arrested. The IDF adds that it also carried out interrogations and seized Hamas propaganda material.

“During the operation, a violent riot occurred, during which suspects threw stones and Molotov cocktails towards Israeli security forces, who responded with live ammunition. One person was hit,” he said. she said.

Israeli soldiers also destroyed a major road in the town of Toulkarem, according to witnesses.

According to WAFA, the Israeli army intervened in the city of Nablus and destroyed a house previously occupied by a man accused by Israel of killing a British-Israeli mother and her two daughters last April.

The attacker, Moaz al-Masri, was killed by the Israeli army last May in Nablus.

Israeli armed forces arrested at least 55 Palestinians during their nighttime operation, according to a Palestinian NGO that supports Palestinian detainees.

According to the WAFA agency, the Israeli army carried out another operation in the West Bank, in the village of Burin, near Nablus, where a ten-year-old boy was killed. According to medical sources cited by the agency, Israeli soldiers opened fire, hitting the child in the head.

Tensions in the West Bank, already high before the new war in Gaza, have further increased with the conflict. More than 400 Palestinians have been killed in clashes with settlers or the Israeli army.
