The goal of this delegation? Bring more visibility and of support to single parents, while fighting against financial insecurity. “Recognition of the place of single-parent families in our society could result in the creation of a “single-parent family” map”wrote in their report senators Colombe Brossel (socialist, environmentalist and republican group) and Béatrice Gosselin (related to Les Républicains), who propose that this system be tested experimentally for 6 months, before being evaluated.

What are the advantages offered by the “Single Parent Family” card?
For the two senators, the idea is to create a map “a bit like the ‘large family card'”explained Colombe Brossel during a press conference organized on the occasion of the presentation of their report. “It is a card recognizing the status of a single-parent family, which would be a card that we would have the right to request or not […] and which would allow for example to have a certain number of rights or attached benefits”she clarified.
Concretely, this “Single-parent family” card, renewable every year, would offer benefits and discounts (such as access or preferential rates) concerning the following services and benefits:
- the school canteen
- public and collective transport
- hobbies
- summer camps
- public early childhood service
- extracurricular activities
- sporting and cultural activities
- childcare methods
- social housing
- mutual societies

If implemented, the “Single-parent family” card would benefit 2 million families and 3.1 million children, according to the site Actu.fr. In France, this family model represents 24.7% of family types. They therefore represent 1 in 4 families. “The card should be operational”, Colombe Brossel assures our colleagues. “And it will meet specific needs.”
Unlike the “Large family” version, this card would also be “a way for single parents to identify themselves as such” with administrations, educational establishments or businesses. During the 3 months of hearings that Colombe Brossel and Béatrice Gosselin conducted with institutions, associations and concerned parents, the impossibility of being easily identified as such appeared to be one of the main difficulties. encountered by single-parent families. For example, some employers indicated that they wanted to grant more flexibility to their single parent employees (adjusted working hours, teleworking, etc.), but that they often struggled to recognize them.
