Why is a year devoted to an animal? Where does the turnover come from?
According to Chelsea, “There are several explanations, but the greatest legend of Chinese astrological signs claims that the Jade Emperor, the Taoist ruler of the gods, wanted to select twelve animals as signs for the Chinese lunar calendar. "
So the order was decided by a race to reach the Heavenly Gate. The Ox, being the strongest and the fastest of animals, was ready to win.
