What is this mistake to avoid when applying moisturizer? A dermatologist answers: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

We all dream of plump, deeply hydrated skin. Thus, daily use of moisturizing cream, moreover the editorial team recently revealed its favorites, is emerging as essential, both when waking up and when going to bed. But before throwing yourself headlong into the world of skincare and choosing a moisturizer that is not suitable for your skin, you need to know your skin type: dry, oily or combination. If you have rather oily skin, an emulsion will do the trick; if your skin is dry, choose a rich, melting texture to provide comfort. If your complexion is rather dull, opt for a cream enriched with brightening active ingredients, such as fruit acids. If you want to fight wrinkles, retinol is a good option. In other words, it is essential to target the needs of your skin to find the ideal moisturizer.

Neck, eye contour, etc.: discover these areas of the face that are sensitive to certain treatments

If you thought you knew everything about your skin and the treatments to apply to enhance it, perhaps you are still making an error highlighted by the American dermatologist Dr. Mamina Turegano, known on social networks as Dr Mamina. She informs: “The skin around your eyes, around your mouth, and on your neck is a little different than the rest of your face. The skin around the eyes is thinner and there are fewer sebaceous glands. The skin on the neck is not thinner but it also has fewer glands that produce sebum (which helps protect the skin, editor’s note). These areas can be a little more sensitive to certain ingredients including retinoids, vitamin C, fruit acids which exfoliate. explains the dermatologist who advises to be then “very careful”.

Why shouldn’t you apply moisturizer to your entire face?

If you use a regular moisturizer, you can apply it everywhere. On the other hand, if you choose a treatment formulated with specific active ingredients which can sensitize the neck or eye area, it is preferable not to apply it to these areas. Choose treatments specifically designed for the eye area and neck which often contain suitable anti-aging and moisturizing ingredients. Dr Mamina recommends in particular to use your eye contour cream on your neck. She also mentions the area around the mouth, where the skin can be particularly dry and peeling when you apply retinol there. “If you want to, first apply a moisturizer before the retinol treatment at this level” she suggests.

Finally, whether you use photosensitizing treatments or not, applying sunscreen is strongly recommended on a daily basis. It helps protect the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays responsible for skin cancer and premature skin aging, in particular wrinkles and pigment spots.

The skin around the eyes, mouth, and neck can be more sensitive than the rest of your face, so be sure to be careful when using ingredients like retinoids, vitamin c, and exfoliating acids on these more delicate areas. #skincare #skincareroutine #eyecream #neckcream #antiagingproducts #antiagingskincare #derm #drmamina
