WhatsApp is presumably unhappy with the current design of the Status section in the Updates tab, and is testing a new design that will make it more visible.
As usual, WABetaInfo dissected the new update of the WhatsApp beta application, and noticed that version 2.24.4.23 for Android brought a new appearance to the Status bar. The new design is not yet available to all beta testers, so it may not appear on your device even if you have the latest version installed.
The new redesign of the Status section changes the way status updates are displayed in the Updates tab. Instead of showing circular icons with the user’s profile picture, the new design shows card-like previews of status updates, both from the user and their contacts. Previews also preview the content of status updates, such as text, images, or videos. So, Users can easily see what their contacts have posted and decide whether to view them or not.

WhatsApp changes the design of Statuses on its application
The new layout also highlights the Status section in the Updates tab, as it takes up more space than channel updates. This may be a problem for some users who prefer to see more channel updates than statuses, but This can also be a benefit for those who want to see more activity from their contacts.
Furthermore, Previews make it easy to see multiple status updates from the same contactas users can click on the preview to see the full list of updates.
As always, the redesign of the Status section is still in beta testing, and it is unclear when it will be rolled out to the stable version of WhatsApp. It is likely that users will still have to wait many weeks before being able to see the redesign of the Status bar on their application.
