Where is Karl-Erivan Haub ?: Agreement in the billion-dollar inheritance dispute

Where’s Karl-Erivan Haub?
Agreement in the billions in inheritance dispute

Around three years ago, Tengelmann boss Karl-Erivan Haub disappeared without a trace during a ski tour in Zermatt. Since then, a family dispute has been simmering over the billions in the legacy of the former company director. It is now clear: Karl-Erivan’s heirs want to sell their shares in the company within the family. But the billionaire’s fate is still unclear.

The joint statement by the lawyers of Katrin Haub and Karl-Erivan’s brother Christian Haub suggests how difficult the negotiations have been: there is talk of a “long road”, “protracted disputes” and “very tough negotiations”. Now, however, an agreement has been reached and a joint declaration of intent has been signed: the agreed share purchase is to be notarized and carried out in May. But before this step can be taken, the former Tengelmann boss Karl-Erivan Haub must be officially declared dead.

A team around RTL reporter Liv von Boetticher has been researching for months as part of a TV documentary lasting several hours and is following a large number of leads: the RTL team is currently on site in Zermatt and was able to speak to the search and rescue teams responsible at the time. Even three years later, there is still no evidence to confirm a mountain accident.

In order to obtain the declaration of death, the family started a so-called public notice procedure at the Cologne District Court a few weeks ago. Deadline: May 12, 2021. The missing Karl-Erivan himself, or any other person who could have clues about his whereabouts, should be given the opportunity to report to the Cologne District Court. For this purpose, the list was published in the Federal Gazette and in the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” and posted in the court. If by May 12th no reliable information about the whereabouts of the billionaire has been received, he can be declared dead at the request of the family.

Accident in the Alps or deliberate disappearance?

But what if Karl-Erivan Haub wasn’t the victim of a tragic mountain accident? The reporter’s research raises doubts as to whether Karl-Erivan Haub actually died in Zermatt.

The investigative journalists got access to secret files and expanded this information through their own research. In doing so, they also investigate the dimension of Karl-Erivan Haub’s relationship with Russia. The Russian Veronika E. also plays a decisive role here.

According to sources from secret service circles that the RTL journalists were able to see, the woman is said to be an active agent of the Russian domestic secret service FSB. On June 10th at 8:15 p.m., the documentation on RTL will also answer the question of whether Haub’s business in Russia may have been his undoing. It usually takes at least four weeks for a court to deliver a judgment. Should evidence of Haub’s whereabouts be received by the deadline specified by the Cologne District Court on May 12, 2021, the judges will have to investigate them as part of an official investigation.
