The chances of snow down to low altitudes are only slim. Over Christmas it is around 10 degrees mild in the lowlands.

Precipitation…

After the dry high-pressure weather, fronts are in sight again, and things will continue to be unstable over the Christmas period. On Wednesday the snowfall limit is between 700 and 1000 meters. From Friday it will even rise to 1200 to 1500 meters.

…but too mild for snow down to low altitudes

This means that the chances of snow in the lowlands are very low. The fronts are accompanied by westerly winds, which at times become stormy. On Christmas Eve and Christmas even 10 to 12 degrees are in sight and +4 degrees can be expected even at 2000 m.

What does a look into the past say?

Statistically speaking, white Christmases are rare in the lowlands. In Bern is about the long-term average every four years snow during at least one of the Christmas days. In the mountains the probability is significantly greater. In Davos, for example, there was only a snow-free Christmas Day in 2016 in recent decades. It’s no surprise that white Christmases are becoming less common in times of climate change. Calculations by the federal government show: The chance decreases significantly, especially in slightly elevated locations and of course also in lowlands.
