Who will inherit the castle from the Bogdanoff brothers?

The castle of Esclignac. A pretty house dating from the 11th century, well known in the Gers, in particular in the village of Montfort. From its historical side but also and above all because it belongs to the two Bogdanoff brothers, recalls Actu.fr. However, the two twins died six days apart between the end of December and the beginning of January, as a result of Covid-19, even though they were not vaccinated. Today the question arises of the future of the house. Because this piece of heritage is falling into ruins according to our colleagues, 36 years after the acquisition made by the two brothers.

As recalled, at the time, Igor and Grichka had paid only 280,000 euros to afford it, a way to get closer to the place where they had spent their childhood, they who were born in Saint-Lary in the Gers. Problem, they had promised to renovate it, to bring funds and in particular to redo the roof. Except that nothing has been done, deplores Cédric Davant-Lannes today with actu.fr, the president of the association for the defense of heritage, “Safeguarding the Gascon heritage”. He does not hesitate to point out that when it rains, “the water runs down the stairs of the tower”.

Eleven heirs

Obviously, the situation of the Gascon building hardly moves its occupant, one of the twins’ half-brothers. Before their death, the association had even injected 800,000 euros to buy it back, but had never received a response to its proposal. Today, the future seems even more uncertain, since there is another problem: succession. Indeed, according to our colleagues eleven descendants must now share it: their five brothers and sisters and the six children of Igor.

Is the situation at an impasse? On the one hand, the association recalls that the castle is the oldest Gascon building in the region, and that in just ten years, its millennium must be celebrated. What will happen between now and then? It would take a repair, but today, for “Safeguarding the Gascon heritage”, such an investment is not possible, because of the scale of the work. If the situation is resolved between the heirs, there remains one solution: that of the arrival of a patron. In any case, this is what Cédric Davant-Lannes wants, who “crosses his fingers” that a heritage buff “gives sign of life by then.
